How to Prevent Caravan Awning Storm Poles from Bending
If you do not take proper care of your caravan awning, then even the best ones would not be able to withstand the test of time. At times the poles will give away or the fabric may come off. One such instance is where the awning storm poles get bent and they let the draught in. This will obviously reduce the comfort inside the awning, especially if it is a full wall awning, and you will have to bear with it till you fix the problem.
If you have alloy poles, then you will notice that they that seem to give to wind pressure far too easily. The weakened structure bends away from the caravan side and lets draughts through. Now the most probable solution would be to anchor them half way up by clamping the awning fabric to the clip. This will help in preventing a hole from being made.
In my opinion, the best way to do this is to get 2 clips and screw them into the caravan as this will hold the awning poles tightly against the body of the caravan. Make sure that you put the screws with care as miscalculated insertions can lead to damages. You would not want that to happen, would you? You can use the same clips that are used for holding copper pipes in houses.
If the clips don’t have a nice tight fit, then you can apply some carpet tape around the poles to get it really tight. It would be a good idea to measure the diameter of the poles and the clip to understand the amount of tape that would be needed to get a tight fit. It is important for the clip to fit in tightly or else the poles can give in to pressure again. You can also try to add more clips if one or two clips don’t seem enough.
The only other alternative to this (which I feel is really effective) is to invest in a good caravan awning that is durable enough to withstand the elements of nature and is comfortable enough to take with you on your road trips. Check out some amazing caravan awnings and annexes here.
